Following on from the success of Project Pride Accrington banners, (see http://www.accymarkethallbanners.wordpress.com), I have been commissioned by the Co-op to work with two Co-operative schools in Manchester to make some celebratory banners for this years International Women’s Day. Last week I spent two mornings at the Co-operative Academy of Manchester in Blakely with a group of lovely Year 9 students creating collages and textile samples celebrating their mums, grans, sisters and aunts. An integral part of the collages designs was to add text the students had collected by interviewing their chosen female family members and thankfully we have Libby from Manchester Libraries to assist us to pull together everyones contributions. Now the challenge for me is to take the students beautiful artwork, working with it to create a textile timeline that tells the stories of all their amazing Manchester Women.
