Mr Darcy Loses the Plot!

17 Oct

Following on from stitching successful patchwork panels (see previous post) for Lip Services’s new production; Mr Darcy Loses the Plot, the skills of the Avenue Crafters, the Crumpsall Craft Crewe plus our Barbara, a talented solo ninja stitcher from Oldham,  were called upon to create applique panels for the set backdrop. The deadline was tight but don’t these panels look truly amazing. Well done and thank you again to all the stitchers involved.

Sue and Maggie are now touring Mr Darcy Loses the Plot, so cut&paste the web link for more information http://www.lipservicetheatre.co.uk/home

I’ve had lots of fun working again with Avenue Crafters and Crumpsall Craft Crew, plus Full Circle&friends from Oldham Coliseum stitching a patchwork stage backdrop for Lip Service’s hilarious new comedy Mr Darcy Loses the Plot, inspired by the works of Jane Austen.

Thanks to everyone who got involved with this patchwork challenge and if you are interested in adding to this magnificent stage backdrop, just visit Lip Services website for all the info.

A Stitch in Time

7 Dec

Over the last couple of months I have had the pleasure to work with members from the Avenue Craft Group and Crumpsall Craft Crewe to create two textile wallhangings entitled A Stitch in Time. The brief was to incorporate and showcase the many different types of textile crafting techniques and stitches that the members utilise, whilst also depicting local and well loved landmarks, both historic and modern.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with the groups and as well as learning much more about their local areas, was thoroughly impressed by the skill and stitching expertise of the group members. The resulting colourful wall hangers (that can be displayed seperately, or together) are not only eye catching, they also encourage the viewer (whatever their age!) to look closely to spot all the flora&fauna on display and also to see if the local landmarks in Heaton park and Boggart Hole Clough can be spotted.

Thank you to all our fabulous workshop participants and see you at our next RNCM Family Fun Day on Sunday 25th October 😉

Antony Gormley’s Field inspired Y3 pupils at Pikes Lane Primary this week

27 Mar

Here are some pics of Year 3’s Antony Gormley inspired Field figures. For their arts week Pikes Lane Primary School in Bolton were looking at British artists, so I had an opportunity to run a workshop I have long wished to.

I was really impressed with how carefully the students worked. The figures will go on display in the school library shortly, so Mr Bradley has promised to send me more images. Watch this space for updates…
